I Love and Hate Comics

Right im going to rant a bit bear with me, today i read a scott morse comic book called "visitations" its a small sepia comic about angels or the possibility of angels, it made me cry it was that good, beautifull, tragic and heartwarming its a book everyone should read.... but very few people will read because its a comic book.

this got me thinking about this whole comic book situation, In england comics are seen as something juvenile, not something that adults will bother themselves with, and yet this is booked is packed with more story pathos and humility than your average best seller !
And then it made me think about my fellow comic readers, they arent buying this book either, why ?

well why should they when marvel have 60 odd ( well i think its around 66) superhero books lining the shelves, now i havent got a problem with superheros, they were some of the first comics i read but i think that there near dominance of comic books is unhealthy.

For example if i went into a bookstore like "borders" and found that they only stocked one genre of book for instance romance i would be pretty annoyed and yet thats the vibe i get from most comic stores ( i said most comic stores not all ! there are awesome shops about!)

The scary thing is ive spoken to quite a few comic readers over the last few years, and i have been utterly gobsmacked by the sheer narrowmindedness(is that a word?) of these people, theyre absolute unwillingness to break from tradition and try something new..... its like these people dont actually read the books they buy they just collect them, stick them in an airtight polybag and file them away in a box never to see daylight again! is that what that comic has been created for?

I dont believe that, i believe they should be read over and over again to be lent and passed on to get dogged earred and a bit tatty, and maybe in that time they will develop a bit of soul, and give the reader some good memories.

Thakyou all for bearing with me! Im a touch grumpy today!

and here is a list of my favorite comics i have read recently!

Visitations - Scott Morse
The Coffin - Phil Hester/ Mike Huddleston
Pounded - Brian Wood
Fluffy part 3 - Simone Lia
Spiral Bound - Aaron Reinier

and of course

Green Lantern ( yes even I have some habits i find difficult to break )

p.s I have just realised after reading this post how many of my Ideas in this I might of stolen from my good friend Sid at Across The Counter he talks about things like this in a more Eloquent and Intelligent fasion, go look at his website and LEAVE COMMENTS it will make him happy! (and yes the bit in blue in this paragraph is a link!)
