My 5 favourite albums (at the moment)

well this is more like five albums I keep coming back to over and over again

R.E.M. - New adventures in Hi - Fi

I got this album on its day of release
in 1996 I was already an obsessive
R.E.M. fan at the time and this didnt
let me down.

It was much much darker and alot more subtle than
the previous album monster.

At the time of its release it got an absolute kicking by
the critics, possibly because it wasnt automatic for the
people part 2 but i personally think this is one of the best
albums they have ever produced.

Stand out tracks include leave, Be Mine and E-bow the letter

Vision of Disorder - Imprint

Another underated classic VOD's imprint
was a breath of fresh air too my tired ears,
and a glimpse of what aggresive music
could of been.

Tight and unpretentious with a sparse production by D.Sardy this
album sounded unlike anything I had heard before.

Metal at the time was overloaded with sluggish overproduced
nu-metal bands and VOD'S back to basics approach maybe was
a bit too much for the metal buying populace.

I still think no album has come close to capturing the aggresion,
this proved to me you could be heavy and blistering
without relying on the same idiotic metal cliches like satan,
leather waist-coats, spiked wristbands, trenchcoats
and calling yourself something crap like Logan.

Ben Folds Five - Whatever and Ever Amen
This albums rocks hard and there are no guitars
on it swaggering between beautiful mournfull pop
ballads and rollicking outrageous rock songs that
bring to mind 1970's Elton John before he turned shit.

The band comprising of a drummer bassist and pianist only.
had the ability to produce an almighty din if they wanted to
and bring you to tears.

Songs like "Steve's Last Night in Town" bring to mind crazy
Broadway Musicals with Fred Astaire dancing around like a
naked maniac with only a bit of tin foil to cover his penis and
a flag with Ginger Rogers face on it sticking out his arse!
yes its that good.

to be continued......
